Originally the clock was sited above the pavilion, on the gymnasium which was burnt down in the early 1980s. After languishing for over twenty years the old pavilion clock was picked up as an Alumni Committee restoration project. Reconditioning work was overseen by Stuart Gouk (1974 - 1979) and the restoration was completed in 2010.
After due consideration of possible sites, the clock was ready for installation in its new position in the 75th Jubilee year.

A small correction: the gym burnt down in 1984.

While I remember the clock well from the 1960's the clock that made the greatest impression was the electric deco grandfather clock that stood in the main entrance way. I used to ring the bell in about 1965 and was always checking my wristwatch against the clock outside the reception office. I hope it still survives.

I clearly remember that clock. It stood just outside what was then the Bursar's office. Mr Smeaton was the Bursar, and he and his wife (who taught Lower school) lived in the gate house cottage at the bottom of the main drive. In my years at St Peters (1945 - 1949) AFB would often give a kid the privilege of winding the driving weights.

That was a scary night, as a border up stairs we joked about the alarms until going downstairs onto the grass and looking back into the flames.....the next morning was devastating to see the mess.Mr Drew was very good that night considering the younger kids were 10.

Actually it was the music block and library that burned down, and it was 1984. I watched it from Green dorm.
